The story of this coffee began with Ferney Mendez, who started growing coffee at just 14 years old after his grandfather gave him a small plot of land with around 200 coffee trees. What began there grew into a lifelong dedication to quality coffee at Buena Vista in the mountains of Planadas, Tolima. Today, that work continues through Mendez Family Coffee, carrying forward Ferney's commitment to careful cultivation, harvesting and processing.
That care extends beyond the coffee itself. The farm uses thoughtful practices to protect the land around it, including responsibly treating organic waste and water from coffee processing and using living barriers to support the surrounding ecosystem. It’s a practical, hands-on approach to sustainability that reflects the family's belief that great coffee starts with taking care of where it grows.
The coffee is carefully harvested and washed, with ripe cherries selected for quality before fermentation and slow drying on raised beds. The result is a clean, approachable Colombian coffee with plenty of sweetness and character, easy enough for your everyday cup, but special enough to remind you where it came from.
